NAACP Says Black Athletes Should Stay Away From Colleges In Florida

After Gov. Ron DeSantis had the entire DEI (division, equity, and inclusion) program at the University of Florida eliminated; the NAACP is advising that Black athletes avoid attending schools out there altogether.

It’s been reported that Charlie Baker, the NCAA President, received a letter from the NAACP that encouraged that their student athletes attend any other school except for the ones in the sunshine state.

“To all current and prospective college student-athletes – the NAACP urges you to reconsider any potential decision to attend, and compete at a predominantly white institution in the state of Florida,” the letter read.

It continued, “This is not about politics. It’s about the protection of our community, the progression of culture, and most of all, it’s about your education, and your future.”

The letter heavily speaks on the importance of having a DEI program in the schools and how it affects Black educators and students. However, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson went to call out Florida’s anti-Black policies.

“Florida’s rampant anti-Black policies are a direct threat to the advancement of our young people and their ability to compete in a global economy.” He continued, “Diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount (to) ensuring equitable and effective educational outcomes. The value Black and other college athletes bring to large universities is unmatched. If these institutions are unable to completely invest in those athletes, it’s time they take their talents elsewhere.”

University of Florida alum Emmit Smith shared his thoughts on the elimination of the DEI program. See the post below.
